LuLu LoLo: Telephone Operator Loretta, circa 1940, will attempt to connect passers-by to the earliest phone number they remember and invite them to leave a message to the past that will be posted on the blog ”Remembrance of Phone Numbers Past”.

What a fabulous project! I’ll never forget my childhood phone#
I’d visit my Grandma and Grandad a couple of times a year from when I was about nine years old. I’d travel from Brisbane to Sydney for school holidays. I’ll never forget my Grandma’s telephone. It was vintage. Even in the 70’s I knew it was mega old. It was black and heavy. It rang really loudly too and my Dad explained that Grandad had ‘done something to it’ that made it ring like that because Grandma was half deaf (‘selective hearing’ Dad also said). As you dialled each number it made a lovely whirring sound. I remember ringing my Aunty Sue who is only 10 years older than me and saying ‘get me out of here’. I’d be scared Grandma would hear our conversations but then I remembered she was half deaf.
This is such a wonderful project. It’s made me think of all the awesome parts of my childhood at my Grandparents home. I was always so welcome and safe there. Pru
